Purpose Without Limits

For C.C. Gallagher, purpose has led her across sectors, roles, relocations, and seasons of military life. As a senior leader, military spouse, and mother, she has built a career grounded in service, strategy, and human-centered impact, proving that military life doesn’t end professional ambition, it sharpens it. She explained, “My career has never followed a straight line—but it has always followed a purpose. Across academia, federal government contracting, and global and national professional and non-profit organizations, my work has been grounded in strengthening the systems that support Service Members, Veterans, and their families.”

Before joining Leidos QTC Health Services, Gallagher’s professional experience spanned cause marketing, customer experience, entrepreneurship, and philanthropy, all connected by a common thread. “What ties these roles together is a consistent focus on building initiatives that expand opportunity, strengthen communities, and align mission with enterprise-wide priorities,” she said. A critical feature of Gallagher’s work has been her ability to build and sustain partnerships that drive real change. She has worked with the White House and federal agencies, such as the Departments of Defense, Labor, and Veterans Affairs, to working alongside Members of Congress, nonprofit leaders, foundations, universities, state legislatures, city councils, and military installation leadership. These experiences reinforced her belief that durable, scalable solutions are created through cross-sector collaboration.

That belief is further shaped by lived experience. Gallagher said, “As the spouse of an active-duty Army soldier and the mother of two highly mobile military children, I’ve experienced the realities of frequent moves, extended separations, and deployments. That lived experience shapes how I lead, how I listen, and how I design solutions.” It has fueled her commitment to ensuring that systems intended to support Service Members, Veterans, and their families are not only effective, but in her words, “responsive, human-centered, and built to endure.”

After earning a Master of Science in Communication and Information, Gallagher married and moved to her first duty station during a period of continuous deployments connected to the Afghanistan war. “That experience became an early inflection point, requiring adaptability, resilience, and reinvention,” she said. Instead of pursuing a traditional corporate or academic path, she strategically built a career capable of evolving alongside PCS moves, deployments, and family commitments. She reflected, “Military life sharpened both my professional focus and my leadership approach. Every role expanded my skills, clarified where I could create greatest value, and reinforced the importance of aligning professional ambitions with family stability.”

Gallagher’s path to Leidos was unique and inspiring. “While leading my own consulting business focused on advancing support for the military community, I was recruited to assist with the proposal for the Military and Family Life Counseling (MFLC) Program as a part-time consulting employee. As the proposal advanced, Leidos pursued me to serve as the lead for communications and engagement if the contract was awarded.” When Leidos was awarded the two-billion-dollar MFLC contract, she made a deliberate decision to transition into a full-time role at Leidos. After three years at the company, she transitioned to Leidos QTC to serve in her current role as Social Impact and Strategic Initiatives Manager within Customer Experience. She shared, “In this role, I lead Customer Service’s social impact strategy, ensuring alignment with Leidos QTC’s mission and business objectives, and serve as the primary liaison to national Veteran and military service organizations to support the delivery of innovative events, pilot programs, research opportunities, and access to care initiatives that strengthen military-connected community health and well-being nationwide.”

Since joining Leidos, Gallagher has held multiple leadership roles, including Communications and Engagement Manager for the MFLC Program, Chief of Staff for the legacy Military and Veterans Health Solutions division. She said, “Each role has allowed me to expand impact, strengthen cross-functional partnerships, and contribute to innovative mission-driven solutions for the military community.”

Professional development has always been intentional and as a lifelong learner, Gallagher builds growth into her schedule through strategic planning of career goals, flexibility, and prioritization, which include knowing when to lean into career advancement and when family stability must come first. Formal support, especially Leidos’ commitment to remote work options, has been key to helping her establish a balanced life. She noted, “Over nearly five years with the company, I’ve held three roles across the Health Sector and completed four PCS moves—from Fort Bliss in Texas to Carlisle Barracks in Pennsylvania, to MacDill Air Force Base in Florida, and Fort Carson in Colorado—without sacrificing professional growth or continuity.”

Leadership support and inclusion have played a critical role in Gallagher’s career sustainability. She said, “Recognizing a gap in military spouse representation, I led the effort to establish a dedicated military spouse Employee Resource Group chapter and served as its president for two years, with the support of incredible spouses paired with the sponsorship of the ERG’s Executive Sponsor, Liz Porter, President of the Health and Services Sector.” This chapter helped create an encouraging space for military spouses to lead, connect, and grow.

A typical day in Gallagher’s life reflects the unseen resilience of military spouses everywhere. With her husband currently deployed to the Middle East, she manages work, parenting, and service responsibilities largely on her own. “There’s no backup plan if the morning goes sideways—so I have to be the plan,” she shared. From early-morning workouts and packed lunches to meetings, deadlines, and evening activities, she carries multiple roles at once. She said, “When the workday ends, the second or third shift begins. Sports, Scouts, activities, dinner, homework, baths, bedtime routines—solo. There isn’t much downtime, just a transition from one responsibility to the next. Once the house is quiet, the loneliness can set in. That’s often when I think about my husband operating in a deployed environment halfway across the world and hope he’s safe.” What makes the load sustainable are neighbors, fellow spouses, and support networks that step in when family support is far away.

Today, Gallagher is passionate about encouraging other military spouses to reimagine their professional careers. “For a long time, I believed the words career and military spouse didn’t belong in the same sentence. That changed when I began working at Leidos. I realized there are organizations that recognize that cultural competency, lived experience, and the grit and loyalty that military spouses bring—and that can offer real upward mobility.”

Looking back over her journey, Gallagher shared a powerful token of advice for military spouses: “Military life will always require flexibility. I’ve taken conference calls surrounded by moving boxes, with kids in the background and my spouse unavailable—and still delivered. The drive is always there, because I want to make life better for those who follow and for those that have come before our family. What matters is finding a workplace that values it and supports growth through every season. A long-term career is not only possible—it can be sustainable and meaningful.”
