From Intern to Impact: Meet Timothy Chiu

Designing Better Digital Experiences Through Technology

For Timothy Chiu, an internship at Leidos QTC was the perfect opportunity to combine his passion for healthcare with user-centered design. Raised in Queens, New York, Chiu recently earned his master's degree in human-computer interaction from Georgia Tech and worked as a User Experience Design intern. Working on enterprise healthcare dashboards, portals, and digital interfaces gave him hands-on experience solving real-world challenges while strengthening his skills as a designer.

Just as valuable as the technical work were the lessons he learned from the people around him. Chiu thanked the staff for the following skills he embraced during his internship: “Communication! How to pitch yourself and your ideas in front of stakeholders, such as navigating the fine line between advocating for yourself and advocating for the users that you are designing for.” While there wasn't a single defining moment that moved him to become a full-time employee, Chiu shared “the weekly meetings where our team discussed goals and recent work kept me enthusiastic about working with such an awesome team of designers."

Today, Chiu works remotely as a Software Engineer, taking on greater ownership and responsibility across projects. "With our modernization efforts through design at LQTC, we have leveraged high-quality solutions that deliver and optimize solutions at a much greater velocity," he said. "This is a meaningful matter to me because it helps our customers and clients reach their goals much more efficiently." 

Reflecting on his internship experience, Chiu encourages future interns to stay authentic throughout the hiring process. "Be yourself," he said. "What hiring managers are looking for aren’t just your capabilities—it's whether they truly see you as an integral and complementary part to their team and its goals.”
